History
In 2001, Dr Kris Chatamra accompanied Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, on a royal working visit to Sakon Nakhon Province. During dinner graciously hosted by Her Majesty, Dr Chatamra presented his vision, stating:
Through my many years of treating breast cancer patients, I have encountered numerous problems. My goal in this country is to establish a breast cancer centre of the highest international standard.
Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, graciously responded:
This is a wonderful project, Doctor. I want this centre to be a sanctuary for women in need.
Shortly thereafter, Her Majesty generously bestowed a personal donation of 2 million baht as seed funding to launch the project. To further its development, Her Majesty personally organised a charitable fashion show, graciously presiding over the event. With great honour, Her Majesty conferred Her name and royal insignia upon the centre, officially establishing it as the “Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer.”
On 11 June 2005, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, presided over the official inauguration of the Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, under the auspices of the Thai Red Cross Society.
In 2007, the Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer established the Breast Cancer Foundation, providing the public with an avenue to support its initiatives. The foundation undertakes a wide range of initiatives, including the procurement of medical equipment, advancements research, such as immunotherapy and the organisation of academic conferences that elevate breast cancer treatment. It also leads awareness campaigns to promote breast health and runs outreach programmes to ensure that underprivileged women in slum communities have access to breast and cervical cancer screenings. Furthermore, its mission has expanded to encompass Pink Park Village, a dedicated facility offering compassionate care to patients with terminal breast cancer. Ultimately, Her Majesty graciously granted royal patronage to the Queen Sirikit Breast Cancer Foundation.
